Do I have self-compassion?

Do I have self-compassion?

What is Compassion? Compassion means that we allow ourselves to be touched by suffering and that we experience the motivation to help enlighten the suffering.

Why do we need self compassion?

Because life is hard. Even though we might have access to water, food, place to live, people who love us, education and so on. We all will be exposed to much pain in life. We all get sick, our conditions can worsen and we all will die. We all lose people we love. We can all fail a goal we are working so hard to reach. Life as a human being means being confronted with pain. Life is hard, for everyone.

But it can happen that we will forget that pain is universal and that this is something that binds us as people. This can lead to people who are struggling with those pain and emotions might feel isolated and lonely. They might even think that something is wrong with them. This may lead to that we won’t ask for help and share our pain, but to withdraw from other people even more. We might start being critical to ourselves, attack ourselves and feel ashamed. This all, instead of supporting, reassuring and encouraging ourselves.

Yes, even though we know deep down in our hearts that life is hard and we are doing good. We still might struggle with comforting ourselves.  For our mental health, it is much more helpful if we are compassionate to our self. This will help us to get through easier.
